The US must rein in Israel and promote calm amid escalating tensions with Iran (Neither Tel Aviv or Tehran)

President Biden meets with his security team.
In light of the recent escalation of tensions between Israel and Iran, as well as the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, it is imperative that the United States and the international community take a principled stance, working to de-escalate the situation and hold all parties accountable for actions that violate international norms and threaten regional stability.

As tensions between Israel and Iran reach boiling point following Iran’s unprecedented direct attack on Israeli territory last night, it is crucial that all parties involved exercise restraint and work towards de-escalation. The United States, as a key ally of Israel and a major player in the region, must take a balanced approach and use its influence to prevent further escalation.

The Iranian strike, which involved over 300 drones and missiles targeting Israel, marks a significant shift in the long-standing shadow war between the two nations. While Israel (along with US and UK support) claims to have intercepted the majority of the projectiles, the attack has raised concerns about the potential for a broader regional conflict.

In this critical moment, the United States must act as a voice of reason and urge both Israel and Iran to exercise caution. The US should make it clear that it neither supports Tel Aviv’s aggressive stance nor Tehran’s retaliatory measures. Instead, the focus should be on promoting dialogue and finding a diplomatic solution to the ongoing tensions.

It is essential that the US use its leverage to discourage Israel from engaging in any further provocative actions that could lead to an escalation of violence. The Biden administration must convey to Israeli leadership that a measured and calculated response is necessary to prevent the situation from spiralling out of control.

Simultaneously, the US should engage with Iran through diplomatic channels, emphasising the importance of restraint and the need to avoid any actions that could further destabilise the region. The international community, particularly the United Nations Security Council, must also play a role in facilitating dialogue and promoting a peaceful resolution to the conflict.

The world must recognise that the recent attack on the Iranian diplomatic compound in Syria, which killed several members of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, was a clear violation of the rules-based order that generally governs international relations. This incident, coupled with the IDF’s devastating assaults on Gaza’s civilian population, which many have characterised as genocidal in nature, is further evidence of the Netanyahu government’s descent into a rogue operator, disregarding international norms and potentially jeopardising regional stability. The indiscriminate targeting of Palestinian civilians, resulting in a staggering loss of life and widespread destruction of infrastructure, is a grave violation of international humanitarian law. The international community must strongly condemn such actions and hold Israel accountable for its role in escalating tensions and perpetrating atrocities against the people of Gaza.

As the fate of the Middle East hangs in the balance, it is imperative that all parties involved prioritise the safety and well-being of civilians on both sides. The US, as a global superpower, has a responsibility to lead by example and work towards a solution that ensures long-term stability and security for all nations in the region.

In the spirit of Tony Cliff’s “Neither Washington nor Moscow,” we must adopt a principled stance that rejects the aggressive actions of both Israel and Iran. By taking a balanced approach and advocating for calm and diplomacy, the US can play a vital role in preventing a catastrophic regional war and paving the way for a more peaceful future in the Middle East.

The Gospel of World War Three: Alexander Dugin and the Death Cult of Civilisation

Alexander Dugin’s latest polemic is not political analysis but fascist sermon—an apocalyptic blueprint in which nuclear war is both inevitable and desirable. Cloaked in the language of sovereignty and tradition, it is a call to arms for a new ideology of holy Russian power. What begins with Fordow ends with the end of humanity. And for that reason alone, it demands scrutiny—not celebration. You listening, tech bros?

The Bomb in the Basement, the Bomb in the Mountains: Israel, Iran, and the Nuclear Hypocrisy of the West

The next state to cross the nuclear threshold won’t be doing anything new. It’ll be following the path Israel already took—building the bomb in secret, shielded by silence and strategic utility. The real precedent was set decades ago in the Negev. That’s the hypocrisy at the heart of the so-called international order: one bomb is a threat to civilisation, the other a pillar of it. This isn’t about non-proliferation. It’s about who gets to own the apocalypse.

A stylised, screen-printed poster shows the Spanish PM in a suit walking past large NATO emblems on bold, flat panels. The image is rendered in a 1968 protest aesthetic with a grainy texture and a limited palette of red, navy blue, and beige. The composition evokes vintage political posters, with stark contrast and minimal detail emphasising the symbolism of militarism and conformity.

Only Spain Has Got It Right

At The Hague summit, NATO committed to spending 5% of GDP on defence and security by 2035—a figure with no strategic rationale and every sign of submission to Donald Trump. Only Spain said no. Pedro Sánchez broke ranks, arguing that gutting public services to fund rearmament was neither economically justifiable nor politically defensible. In doing so, he exposed what the rest of Europe won’t admit: this isn’t about defence. It’s about deference. And someone had to refuse.
